Golf, the greatest sport played
February 27, 2017Top golfers such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Speith, Jason Day, and the list could go on, make golf an awesome sport to watch. Their skill, personality, and fashion make golf the premier sport. Some may argue and say that golf isn’t a “real” sport. I would like to say, it’s a matter of opinion. Over the last decade golf has gained popularity. It’s available nearly everywhere in the United States and can be played at any age. This sport has millions of followers all over the world, including Lake Ashton. The 2nd Annual Lake Ashton Member Appreciation Golf Tournament was held at Lake Ashton this past Friday. Over 340 players, all at different skill levels, were grouped into foursomes playing in a best ball format. At the end of each hole, the lowest score or “best ball” was used as the team score. Players in each group worked together to achieve the best and lowest score possible. There are several reasons why the residents in Lake Ashton love golf. #1. It’s versatile. You can play on your own, or you can grab three friends and enjoy a game together at the same time. #2. You can eat and drink a cup of coffee, soda or bottled water while you play a round of golf at Lake Ashton. Where else can you eat a banana covered in peanut butter, or a sloppy hamburger from the Eagles Nest while riding up a fairway? You can even toast your own bottles of beer to celebrate a birdie or eagle. #3. You can practice almost anywhere. This would include the driving range, your own yard or living room. #4. No round of golf is ever the same. With so many golfers in Lake Ashton the conditions are never the same, the golf is rarely the same, and the pairings always change. #5. It’s rewarding. Golf is harsh, agonizing, frustrating and rewarding, all at the same time. There were plenty of birdie shots on the East and West golf courses at Lake Ashton. For the first time, some golfers broke 70, 60, and 50 for the first time. It’s the feeling one gets from the momentous occasions that make golfers return for another round of golf every day at Lake Ashton.
